My husband used to work for a company (here in the US) that was based in Japan. He frequently travelled there for corporate meetings, as well as nearly every state here in the continental 48. Fancying himself a sushi and sashimi "aficionado" from his many travels, he says Nakato is THE best stateside that he's ever had; and I agree wholeheartedly! When we last visited (Aug 08), we were told there would be a 45 min. wait and decided to have a couple of drinks at the bar while we waited. After discovering that the steakhouse part was table-side entertainment - ala Shogun - we decided, instead, to eat at the sushi bar. What a treat! The sushi bar is "in the round" and features what can only be described as a sushi regatta. The typical American fare - California rolls, Philly rolls, etc. - is always ready and accessible via a gondola train that runs continuously around the bar between the seated patrons and the sushi chefs. Diners have the option to choose from the regatta or off of Nakato's ample menu of sushi, shashimi and nigiri, all of which are very reasonably priced and extremely well-proportioned. We chose a couple of rolls from the sushi train while we awaited our Rainbow roll, Nakato Tempura roll and Alaska roll. To quote my 15-year-old daughter, OMGeez! If you are seeking sushi NIRVANA, this is the place! The only downside is you won't want to stop when your meter reaches full and the ride home is usually a quiet one...you may want to appoint a designated driver as the bar fare is as superlative as the sushi. Douzo meshiagare! (bon appetit)

Their food is always amazing. I'm in love with the seafood sauce, just give me a straw and I could slurp it up. Whether you do the grill or sushi, you'll be pleased. My favorite is the eel twister. It is so good. The chefs always have new tricks to show off so even if you go once a week, you are bound to be surprised once in a while. The front desk gals and guys are always very pleasant and helpful. The servers must get paid well, because they stick around for years.

Food was very oily. Chef, however, was entertaining--the volcano trick was impressive. He was not equal in the amounts he was serving. It seemed the last diner he served was always shortchanged. The atmosphere seems tired. The could use a decorative update. This was not our favorite dining experience.

We always try japanese restaurants when we travel. Have eaten in KC MO, St. Lou. MO, and many on the east coast. This is STILL our favorite !!!
